The retreats are held at the Ithaca Zen Center, a 60 acre facility in the Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York. The grounds include two spring-fed, fresh water ponds - wonderful for swimming and no chemicals!
Alongside each pond are wood-fired saunas. The sauna doors open next to the pond. The sauna room itself has a picture window looking out onto the pond. Surrounding the pond is a five acre lawn that occasionally hosts a spontaneous soccer or volleyball game. It is an ideal site for sunbathing during the afternoon break time.
The dining hall was enlarged in 1999 and again in 2001 to comfortably accommodate the growing numbers who are coming to the retreat.
There is a studio for yoga, cognitive kinesiology and aerobics. The studio has a pyramid ceiling, eighteen windows, four French doors, and a huge deck looking out over the forests, gardens, waterfalls and ponds.
A forest surrounds the meditation hall. Instruction is given on basic calming of the body and mind. Optional meditation gatherings take place each morning and evening.
There is a wide range of residences. The deluxe cabin is a two room structure with a gorgeous view of a 50 foot clear span bridge, pond and island. There are private one room cabins and single rooms with private bathrooms.
A comfortable dormitory accommodates three. In a clearing in the forest just off the main campus are private cabin tents on raised platforms containing bed, chair, end table, shelves, and hall tree. Tent life is an economical and adventurous way to attend the program.
